Dystopian and Utopian

Dystopian fiction is speculative fiction that offers us a glimpse of a potential future, into a world of deprivation, oppression or societal breakdown. It explores how humans respond when faced with extreme situations outside normal social conditions and the rule of law, and often takes place in post-apocalyptic settings. Utopian fiction, by contrast, sets out a vision of an ideal society - although this does not mean that these works are free from conflict.
